Baby Top Hat - Free Crochet Pattern

Halloween. It's one of my favorite holidays. Not in a dark way, but in an I'm-so-excited-it's-Fall-and-the-holidays-are-about-to-start sort of way. Also, candy.

This year I've been getting some really fun costume requests from my friends. I'm up for a challenge and for making something new so I can't help but say yes.

One of my friends just had a baby and they're doing a Thomas the Train family costume theme. The baby gets to be Sir Toppem Hat, so naturally she needed his namesake accessory. That's where I came in.

I made it up as I went and decided to write it down for you. This is an easily adaptable pattern. Feel free to play with it, make it bigger, smaller, shorter, taller, add a hat band, a flower, or a button... whatever! Just make it yours. Upload it to my Ravelry page so we can all see. And be sure to give it heart so you can find it later.

Yes, that's a lot of single crocheting... but look how cute!

Click the "PRINT FRIENDLY" button at the top of the page to download and print the full pattern. Or find it on my Ravelry page. Here's some quick info for you:

MATERIALS:

  • Worsted weight yarn (10 ply/8 wpi): 1.8 - 2.5 oz
  • US G-6 / 4.00 mm crochet hook

FINISHED SIZE:
  • Newborn - 12” around
  • Bigger babies - up to 18” around (9-12 months)

Hooky Halloween Scavenger Hunt

While you're at work today, play a little hooky and go on a spooky Halloween scavenger hunt! I've hidden 10 bats (look for the picture to the left) in my Etsy Shop. Each one is hidden in a different picture. It could be on any picture, anywhere, in any direction! But it will always be this bat in black. To find them, search through all the listings in my Etsy shop. You can earn a coupon code worth up to 20%!

HOW TO PLAY:
  1. Email me or send me a FB message with all the LINKS (not the listing titles) to the listings where you find a bat to unlock your coupon code.
  2. Your discount amount depends on how many bats you find: 1 bat = 2% off... 2 bats = 4% off, 3 bats = 6% off... 10 bats = 20% off!
  3. DO NOT GIVE AWAY ANY LISTINGS AS A COMMENT HERE OR ON FB. If you do, you will automatically be disqualified from any discount. Let's let everyone have fun!
  4. The hunt is on all Halloween day only. So search fast!
  5. Your discount will be good in my Etsy shop through Sunday (11/3).
Here's an example of what you're looking for. If it's not the exact bat shown, it doesn't count.

YAY HALLOWEEN!

I didn't do anything for the spookiest holiday last year so I wanted to start early this year. My husband's already talking about 80's punks & mohawks while I'm thinking of going Madonna-Like-a-Virgin style. You remember in the 80's when she was cooler than Lady Gaga is now? (Sorry Gaga fans, but I the 80's!).

Through all my decoration scheming and costume planning I had my Etsy shop in mind. I wanted to make some Halloween hats that were cool enough to fit the rest of my shop (that's right, I said my shop was cool). The design process led me to modify two of the designs I already have listed in my shop to create some of the awesomest (it's a word...) Halloween hats on the block! So take a look!

I took my Avalanche Beanie and turned it into this Spiderweb Halloween hat. I can make it in ANY size and change the colors to whatever YOU want.

For this Candy Corn Hat I used my Woodland Hat without the earflaps. It's a simple hat, but it's yummy!

Celebrate Halloween with me for the whole month of October!! And let me know what size your melon is so I can get started making you a custom Playin' Hooky design.

HAPPY HOOKING!!
